Good News!!!

So a couple of days ago I went to the voodoo doctor.

Did I tell you about the voodoo doctor? When I was home in Canada I went to a trigenics doctor that was recommended to me and he did a world of good for my back. It's a new.... I don't know.... medical philosophy? Anyway, I call anything I have trouble explaining 'voodoo'.

So, when I went home I still had trouble sitting and slept most nights on the floor, but after a few visits to this guy, I was feeling much better - but I needed to continue in order to get completely better.

So back in Australia, I looked for the same type of doctor. No voodoo's listed, but three trigenic doctors located 4 hours drive from me. But after some initial enquiries - I found out the head of trigenics in Canada would be coming to Oz.

Saw him a couple of nights ago and already feeling better - which is good news - but the even better news? He actually read my CT scan report and was the FIRST one to notice that all my disc protrusions were right and all my pain was left.

What does that mean?

My back problems have NOTHING to do with my discs.

That isn't just good news - that's FABULOUS news.

So what's the problem? From what he could see, it seems like I tore the muscles in my back and now I have a great deal of scar tissue. Sounds bad - but in fact its better than disc problems...

In short - I sprained my back.

Oh - and I have a little arthritis.

Looks like I will one day run again!!! (Probably just as slow as before though....)

And I wote

I sent my Big Sister caseworked an update the other day and this was her reply:

Hi Laura,

Thanks so much for your email.
It was a lovely update!
I read your email to three of the other coordinators and everyone thought it was absolutely lovely.
You really are a great example of a Big Sister.

I so rock...

The Mother of all quotes

I was at the cottage with my mom, my best friend and her kids. I had been singing to the radio (I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker) as I was meandering and my Mom came up to me and said:

"You know, I've been listening, and you sound exactly like that woman singing. "

"But I don't know if that's a good thing or not - because I really hate that song."

Lord knows she tries....

Britney Fat?

Okay - I'm not the biggest Britney fan. Actually I've never liked a single song nor bought a record - but man - what the press are doing to her these days???

Okay - she's asking for some of it - walking around without underwear etc. - and maybe her show at the MTV awards wasn't her best performance ever -

but fat???

they think she's fat????

Hey - I don't look that good after having no kids.

I only wish I looked that fat!!!

She should tell them all to fuck off.

I'm over my tanty....

And yes, I'm going to have to admit - it was a tanty....

Things I need to learn:
- how not to be a hot head
- how to learn patience

Though after all these years - its unlikely I'll be able to change those special traits.....

I seriously have the shits....

No, I'm not talking about bodily functions....I'm talking about mood/temperament. I'm annoyed. I'm peeved. I'm so close to completely pissed off.

And why do I have the shits?? Well, because I don't know what to do about it. Which probably means I should do nothing. No more details forthcoming, but let's just say the person that's caused this commotion doesn't even know I'm the slightest upset.

But I'm still stewing anyway.....

5 nice things

I was at work the other day and came across a notebook that I'd forgotten about - I'd labelled it "5 things". When I saw it I actually cringed before I opened it.

See - the month before I left I wasn't a very happy camper but it was the residue from earlier events and with the start of a new job I knew everything was going to be okay but I still couldn't get out of the funk I was in. So what I did was make myself write 5 'nice' or 'good' things about myself every day - theory being was that would help remind me about how good life actually was.

To be honest - it was a good but slightly hokey idea so it never really took hold. But I did manage to do my list for a few weeks.

So you can imagine that coming up with 5 nice things about myself is pretty tough for someone as sarcastic and self-deprecating as I am - which is why I cringed when I saw the book. I have since ripped out the pages so that no one finds it when I'm gone or searches through my desk after some tragic accident (can you just imagine what they'd think?????)

I still have the pages and I re-read them this morning and its quite funny actually. I apparently was having a tough time coming up with things because instead of coming of with 5 nice things every day, I apparently decided I had to come up with 5 new things each day. A random sampling:

  • my zits healed
  • I like to complete things
  • I look good in navy
  • I'm nice to animals
  • I'm good at small talk
  • I'm organised
  • My cat loves me
  • I have nice hand writing
  • I knew I was having a tough go - but really didn't realise how tough......

(Feel free to laugh - because I am)

    Something weird is going on.....

When I was in business school - it was a form of torture to have to read any of my textbooks - but especially any finance textbooks.

Well, as irony would have it - I've worked in finance ever since. My most recent job move has landed me smack dab in the middle of financial market instruments - which has put me slightly (if not completely) out of my depth. So.... while home, I dug out my old financial texbooks and brought them back to Oz with me.

And you know what? I was reading my Financial Markets textbook while at brunch this morning and I found myself actually interested in what I was reading....

    Today's Horoscope - you've been warned!!!!

This month could be an interesting one for you and you may have to take your commitments to loved ones a lot more seriously than you have of late. If you're dating you may even say yes to marriage or a deeper commitment.

Time will tell.... Time will tell.....

    Speed Walking

Is not really an exciting sport to watch, but you know, I've discovered over the last hour it can be quite funny....

Some sample quotes from the commentators are:
"I'm sitting on the edge of my seat"
I think: why? what could happen? they'll trip???

"After this commercial break, we'll be right back to the action"
    'Action'?? They're walking!!!

And what happens when they finish? (Aside from cry like little babies - which is what I'm watching them all do right now....) Do they need to warm down?? Are they told to 'walk it off'??

Ahhh - imagine if I'd had more time - I'm not sure blogger would have enough memory for the smart ass remarks I could come up with...
